UB Students Make Strides for Breast Cancer
On Sunday, October 23 students of the University of Bridgeport dedicated their day to raising awareness for breast cancer by walking. The ladies of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority Incorporated decided to organize the event for any university students to go if interested and made arrangements so that students could carpool. The making strides walk began around one o'clock but the event started way before that.
Students arrived at Lighthouse Park in New Haven around 11:00 to begin the registration process as well as visit many booths that supplied light snacks and water as well as information about how to prevent breast cancer and how to donate, there was also a merchandise tent when people could purchase t-shirts, sweatshirts even bandanas for their dogs to wear. As soon as students arrived and finished the registration process, they began to get their blood flowing and hearts pumping by dancing, and even participating in a Zumba routine.
When the walk began it was an amazing sight; over 3,000 men and women participated raising over $75,000. The walk ended right in front of the Lighthouse where many groups took pictures and shared in the fulfilled feeling of raising awareness, money and hope for more birthdays.
