Swingin' With The S.H.I.E.L.D.
An Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Recap
The last few episodes of Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. have truly been nothing short of a see-saw. Some excellent moments and a few flaws in the plot is what we’ve had so far. We’ve seen Marvel be over-the-top or frivolous and it has the ability to make its TV shows and movies pure genius sometimes. S.H.I.E.L.D. is one of those Marvel products that manage to have both.
To enumerate the elements of the plot that made eyes roll in contempt, I’d like to first mention Ward. If Coulson has him in a cellar for information about Hydra, why don’t they just ask him for more information? Secondly, if S.H.I.E.L.D. needed an agent to spy on Hydra, why send the only non-spy (Simmons) from his team? Thirdly, Raina, the girl in the flower dress with the googly eyes is back. I think that’s a mess up by itself, which makes me sometimes even question the enemy’s ability to tolerate her. Kind of like we all sometimes wonder if even Voldermort himself would have hated Dolores Umbridge, if he ever had a moment with her in the book. Other than these flaws, there’s a bit of the story being dragged out every now and then. But that really isn’t completely horrendous, as they have to keep the audience titillated.
And now for the little gold nuggets embedded in the plot every now and then. May! May, and more of May! The “Me against myself” fight between the agent and herself was absolutely brilliant. The scene was also technically perfect, with no sloppy body double spotting. It is believable and can leave you at the edge of your seat. Also the plot is finally culminating with Skye’s father and the strange markings that Coulson has been doodling everywhere as a side effect of the T.AH.I.T.I. drug.
Since there really is no predicting where S.H.I.E.L.D. will be in the episodes in the future, it’s worth the watch. It has promising new characters like the Mocking Bird and the Absorbing man still on the loose and as always, the new Mr. S.H.I.E.L.D. himself, Coulson.
