The candidates for the fall 2011 Student Government Association (SGA) are in and the election process has started. Most of the candidates are returning for new positions or are looking to continue the work they did in last year.

The candidates up for election this year are: Colin Capaci running for President, Rebecca Ward, Gregory Brown for Vice President, Soraya Louis Speaker of the House, Delia Amsterdam and Malakhi Eason are running for re-election for the class of 2012 Representatives, Marcel Ringold will try his hand again at Class of 2013 Representative and Class of 2014 Representative Julian Sampson is running for re-election. In the Senator Race, the International College candidates are Andrew Sellars, Katelyn Anton and Tasnah Moyer. Also, there is School of Engineering candidate Edwin Gravrand.

Sophomore and current Executive Secretary, Colin Capaci, has his hopes set on being the next president of SGA to continue on the changes made to the organization and UB.

"I feel like we've [SGA] done a lot of work changing the constitution and the overall paradigm of what student government has to do in order to work efficiently," Capaci said. "I feel like I was apart of that process all the way….I have an obligation to fill the role because of the experiences that I had with where the SGA's going."

Capaci is playing an intricate role re-writing the student constitution and has had a strong opinion on new programming board.

"Now that we have the new things coming in to play, we need to utilize them and take advantage of them; and that starts with the mindset change for the students," Capaci said. "And as a representative that has to be done through example."

The election process began on Tuesday, April 12, with the election speeches—where candidates were asked questions. The voting will take place over two days, April 13-14, throughout the campus. You need to be an Undergraduate to participate in the election and vote.
