Senioritis: A look at the disease
The greatest challenge for a student in their final year will always be: Senioritis. The disease has affected most, some believe their exempted because of they have persevered through worst conditions.
The truth is, year after year seniors across around the world get bored with a class they have to take to fulfill their requirements, some students already have their future set so all they have to do is graduate and some students are just exhausted.
Currently several seniors are suffering from senioritis here at the UB, myself included. I've gotten such a bad case of senioritis that I have to convince myself with a daily debate of whether or not I should go to class. I argue the pros and the cons of going to class everyday, and some days the cons win.
What exactly is Senioritis? According to Merriam-Webster, senioritis is "an ebbing (decline) of motivation and effort by school seniors as evidenced by tardiness, absences, and lower grades."
While this is true, Senioritis is more than a lack of motivation and effort. It is the student's reaction to years of constantly learning tons of information without immediately gaining anything material for it, only for them to hear that they have to endure another year of learning without gaining.
Senioritis has affected us all and will continue to affect those moving through the current system of education. The best way to combat senioritis is to remember that though this is an end to last four years of friendships, fun and adventurous moments, it is the beginning to a new chapter and we seniors will enter into a whole new level of learning.
