"Preacher Dude"

First let me say, I hope everyone had a great summer. I hope you are ready for a monumental year here at the University of Bridgeport, and to all the freshmen and new students, welcome. Okay, now that I got that out of the way, I'm Malakhi RL. Eason, but I'm also known as Preacher Dude or Bowtie. This column is based around my inner thoughts about life, church and relations.

This summer has been a very eventful summer for me. I was able to work a lot on my music and sell my bowties to a big name gospel artist. I have truly had a blessed summer, but you know when you're in church there is always something that comes to get you and causes confusion about who you are as a person. I can't believe I'm actually saying this to the campus (I'm very private), but I have a girlfriend, and she has really been my drive to be a better man, scalar, and father.

Why is it that whenever you get into a relationship everyone and their mother wants to pop up and express their love for you? That one person who you would have given the world to and stop talking to all your friends for comes and says: "I love you" and they want you back... Ugh! It leaves you in a position where you say, "Dang, I could have my dream but I'm in a relationship with a person who loves me and the feeling is mutual."

I had to realize that is was an act of the enemy trying to confuse me and distract me from what God has blessed me with. Honestly, people sleep on how powerful the devil is when it comes down to messing your head up. On one hand I say, ‘Dang this girl is fly, and I know she will work it out', but on the other hand I have a girl who is educated, beautiful, model- looking and stable, someone who I know has the potential to make a great wife and mother of my unborn child.

The point is not to waste your time with people who distract you from what your purpose is on this earth. I'd rather focus on my relationship with God and my career than waste my time thinking about the ‘what if's'. What God has for you it is for you!

Scripture of the week

"For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future."  (Jeremiah

29:11)

Peace and Bowties,

Preacher Dude
