There are so many graduate schools out there! How do I begin looking for one that will fit my future goals?
You're not alone on this one! Graduate school searching can be difficult and confusing for many students. You might feel like it's impossible to decide which school and which program fits best with your future plans. Research is so important and Career Services is the place to start your investigation. Feel like you just need to talk some things out and get yourself organized? Make an appointment with our office! We can help you sift through information and sort out your goals. Our office has computers that you can use during your grad school search. The internet can be a great tool, but can also overwhelm students with tons of information. The career services staff will be with you during the process for encouragement and guidance. Our office also has its own library of books and information about graduate schools. Pop in any time to take a look.
Helpful Tip #1:
Take a moment- Before you even start your grad school search think for a while about what things are most important to you. For instance, do you want to study in Connecticut or move out to California? Do you want to attend a large or small university? Do you need to work while you go to school? Do you need scholarship options? Be sure to talk to family, friends, students who are already in grad school, or your professors/advisors. All of these people can help you decide what you do (or do not) want to do when you leave UB.
