Caliente

.

The Latin American Club has done it. Yet again the students climbed out of the tiny holes they call dorm rooms and made it to the ever growing Caliente party. The University was host location for Caliente. Last Saturday the Student Center Social Room was barely able to contain the masses that showed up for the event. The Caliente Party is a celebration of Latin culture through dance and of course the music that makes you move. A combination and salsa, rumba, meringue and bachata beats were played by a live band and all in attendance enjoyed and eclectic flavor the band added to some old time favorites of each genre. A wild and thrilling time. The Caliente party started off by keeping everyone on their toes and spinning. Dancers of all experience levels were at the event. Some came just to blow off some steam with their friends to great music and some came looking to show off some of their latest moves. Alcohol was served but the bartenders kept a watchful eye on who was wearing the infamous wrist bracelet. Whether you drank or not you simply had a great time. As the drinks were consumed the security got tighter and their presence was felt. Ashlie Bonadonna said, “The police at the party were not very nice about letting people back into the party to get their coats.” Honestly, this isn’t the end of the world, but it was a rather chilly night. Those who wanted to smoke outside had more than the weather to worry about. At one point there was a small mob screaming obscenities into the air mostly directed towards two young girls who were crying into each other’s arms. This small gathering of angry people was soon broken up. The two girls were fine once they got a far enough distance away from the Student Center. Security, despite some floating rumors, did a great job at the party removing more then one individual that got a little too crazy. Two lines of extremely anxious college students and guests could be seen throughout the entire night. Since there was such a steady flow of people coming in and out of the party over the course of the night there was a slight problem with certain people trying to sneak into the party. Latin American Club officials, lead by their president Joseph Melendez, tried to keep those individuals trying to steal a good time at bay. Kristine Koehler said, “The lines were a little too lengthy but once inside I had a great time.” The night went on with a DJ after the band finished their set and from the looks of things everyone enjoyed his selections. Or maybe everyone was just really drunk at that point but who knows. The people kept dancing even when the lights came on and everyone had to be asked to leave. A definite sign that everyone was having a good time. Security cleared the building and everyone when to their respective after parties either at Kelly’s or in Bodine. A successful night…definitely.
