Women’s Soccer Blanks #13 CW Post, 1-0

The University of Bridgeport women’s soccer team raised its East Conference record to an unblemished 2-0-0 and its overall mark to 7-3-0, as the Purple Knights blanked the number 13 ranked team in the nation, the C.W. Post Pioneers, 1-0, on Knights Field in Bridgeport, CT on Saturday afternoon. With the victory, UB is now on a five-match winning streak, and the team has won six of its last seven. The loss is C.W. Post’s first of the season, as they are 4-1-2 overall and 0-1-0 in ECC play.
Freshman Danielle Deschene (Salisbury, MA) scored the match’s only goal when she fired home a shot to the short side of Pioneers’ goalkeeper Kim Yacenda just 5:16 into the second half off a pass from classmate Elin Haren (Stockholm, Sweden).
UB sophomore goalkeeper Brittany Carroll (Plainview, CT)recorded her first shut out and fourth wins of the season, as she made three saves. Yacenda also made three saves for the Pioneers. Both keepers had help from the goalposts in the match, as CW Post hit the frame about 20 minutes into play, and UB hit the post early in the second half.
Bridgeport’s defense clamped down on the Pioneers in the second half allowing C.W. Post only two shots. On the day, UB out shot C.W. Post, 13-6.
Bridgeport will next be in action at the University of New Haven on Tuesday afternoon. C.W. Post hosts Mercy College that same afternoon.
