UB Wins College Prize

On March 30th, a team from the University of Bridgeport won the college prize at the WorldQuest 2006, an annual contest sponsored by the World Affairs Forum. Other universities present included University of Connecticut, Stamford and Norwalk Community College. It was also the first time Yale University participated. This year was at least the third year that UB has participated in the competition. For the third year in a row UB has been recognized as the WorldQuest College Champion. The members of the winning team were comprised of four UB faculty/staff and six undergraduate students; President Neil Salonen, Dr. Thomas Ward, Dr. Zhiqun Zhu, Dr. David Benjamin, Tijana Bokic, Michael Buck, Chris Calabrese, Moondo Field, Benjamin Manifold, and Navena Vatachka. The team did very well among the schools, finishing first and receiving a trophy, despite the larger number of participants in the teams over the years.Dr. Ward commented, “People at the conference were very pleased that UB beat Yale,” congratulating them after the contest ended. The WorldQuest is a fundraising event, which invites members of variousorganizations, companies, corporations, and clubs. UB is sponsored by the US Trust Company in Stratford. This year was the first year the event held two different competitions, one for overall and one for colleges and universities. The contest gave four rounds for questioning: current events, geography, history, and the surprise round.
