Dr. Milton Greenhalgh

This is to inform you that Human Resources received information that Dr. Milton Greenhalgh passed away on Monday, November 15, 2004. Below is some information on Dr. Greenhalgh, provided by Dr. John Nicholas:

Died: November 15, 2004
Age: 92Dr. Milton S. Greenhalgh, adjunct professor of chemistry, taught for more than 65 years at UB. He was also an alumnus and received the only Honorary Master’s Degree in Chemistry ever conferred by the University, as well as an honorary Doctorate Degree. Dr. Greenhalgh worked for General Electric and is credited with having co-invented the electric blanket in 1946. Dr. Greenhalgh held several patents and was active in the field of polymer chemistry. During his teaching career Dr. Greenhalgh taught courses on Introductory Chemistry, and Polymer Chemistry.

The University dedicated a chemistry laboratory in his honor on October 3, 1996 (both UB and GE were responsible for the gift). The plaque reads “Dedicated in Recognition of his 65 Years as Educator, Colleague, Alumnus, and Friend”.

He is survived by his wife, Ruth, two children; daughter, Gay, and son, Gary, and several grandchildren.
