Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr:

On January 17th 2005, America will be celebrating the birthday of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., a man who needs no introduction. This national holiday has not only been a reason to celebrate the life of one of America’s finest leaders, but to promote his legacy of social activism through community-service.
Did you know that Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. had a direct connection with UB? In 1961, he was a distinguished Jacoby Lecturer, right here on campus. You can even see a picture in the hallway of the International College of Dr. King, at a podium, giving a speech.
This year’s MLK theme is Celebrate, Learn, Serve and Honor. We will have participation in community-wide service projects that honor Dr. King’s legacy of service and a community forum that highlights the teachings of Dr. King. Next, we will promote an official recognition of the holiday at UB to honor Dr. King’s historical connection with UB.
What we want is to bring pride to the UB campus life and to connect campus with the community. Help is needed to research the historical link of MLK to UB and to create a forum on Dr. King’s values of social justice and service.
So …. Get involved in promoting the legacy of Dr. King!!
We had our first planning meeting on November 11 the next planning sessions will be on December 2, 8-9 PM. All are welcome.
