It’s often said that one doesn’t appreciate what he has until he loses it. I don’t. But I do try. One of the most impressive realizations throughout my growth at UB was that I can and I did enjoy the everyday common spectrum of events. It is beautiful to wake up late on a Saturday morning and have a brunch with your friends, so you can recap what happened that week or even the night before. Before coming to this continent I just took for granted the presence of loved ones. It is not always that simple. Once I felt the belonging to home away from home, I knew I needed to enjoy it.
I love Marina, not because of the food, that I do admit is significantly better than in my freshman year, but because of the people there. That place is the true melting pot.
And then there was the Scribe. It inspired us, informed us, and entertained us. It was there to say the facts no one would. It was there to praise and to complain, to report and reflect. It was never lame and always on the edge. Just recently I got an email from a previous Editor-In-Chief, Geetha, with whom I agree that if once a member of the Scribe always a member of the Scribe.
I feel that every newspaper should be the driving force of a society and it should be used as an instrument in keeping the justice at its best. With a couple of years writing for the Scribe and now being in charge of it, I strive to fulfill that obligation.
It is hard for me to realize that in a matter of days there won’t be any long Scribe layout nights or Marina stories. I do accept it but appreciate it more than ever before.
I would like to thank everyone who was ever part of the Scribe and wish all the best of luck to the incoming staff. Do count on me. I am just an email away.
Truly yours,
Dusan Bogunovic
