The office is located on the first floor in Dana Hall. The deadline for submission is nooon on Tuesday, September 21, 2004. A correct soultion will be posted after the noon deadline. The Department of Arcane Studeies at a large midwestern university used letters of the alphabet to represent the digits one through nine. In one of the codes used, the digits were represented by the capital letters A through I. The correspondences were chosen so that
A+B+C=C+D+E=E+F+G=G+H+I
and so that the sum of those four equal numbers was as large as possible. If A represents 7, what digit does B represent?
