More Movie than Game

Asura’s Wrath is one of the most anticipated games of this year and the first to combine a potential anime story line into a game. The main character is Asura, one of the former Eight Guardian  Generals who fought corrupt creatures called the Gohma, who try to attack the earth and heaven. Later on in the game you are summoned by the emperor himself. To Asura’s fear the emperor is dead in front of his eyes. Asura is then framed for a crime that he did not commit; he is chased by the army of mechanical troops and is too late to save his wife Durga who is dead and his daughter Mithra who is captured by the people who betrayed him.

Deus is the person behind killing the emperor and the leader of the so called “The Seven Deities.” When Asura finds this all out, he wants to rip Deus to shreds, but Deus is too powerful for him and knocks Asura to Earth. Twelve millenia later, Asura wakes up to find out his former comrades are using Mithra’s power to enhance their power. As Asura struggles his way to Deus he will face forces of heaven, Gohma, your former comrades and many other obstacles.

The graphics have the Unreal Engine 3 inside; games like Gears of War 3 use this graphical engine. Overall the graphics are ok, not what the real potential of the engine could do but it’s just ok. The music fits right into the game, any stage or new chapter in the story you feel in place attached with the music. Plus, the dialogue in the game fits every character, and the voice of every character fits the character itself; no displacement what so ever.

The gameplay is very little, but there is a whole load of cinematic and interactive cinematic parts that you have to pay attention to in order to reach a better rank at the end of the story parts. Every episode plays like an anime episodic style that is very new in a video game perspective. The player will enjoy the storyline, the quick time gameplay that allows you to increase your meter for a ‘burst’ effect, but just the fact that there is very little gameplay is just heartbreaking. The player will have little time to just control Asura’s full potential in the game.
