I also want to inform students of a wonderful opportunity to participate in UB’s first ever alternative spring break program. We are encouraging UB students to Get L.O.S.T. this spring break! Learning Off-Campus, Serving Together, students will have an invaluable opportunity to serve communities affected by Hurricane Katrina and gain terrific community service experience.
The Office of Student Programming & Community Services and the UB Student Government Association is offering students the opportunity to become a “Norge W. Jerome Service Scholar” through the Norge W. Jerome Alternative Spring Break of 2006.
Selected students will volunteer in Selma, Alabama and New Orleans in Hurricane Katrina clean-up/repair efforts as well as tutoring local elementary school children. Thanks to the generosity of trustee Norge W. Jerome, all expenses (except for a $50 commitment fee) for this trip, including airfare, lodging and food, will be paid for selected students. All full-time students who have a minimum GPA of 2.3 are encouraged to apply. Interested students should complete the attached application, as well as provide two letters of recommendation, and submit it to the Office of Student Programming, room 116 Student Center, or email studentprogramming@bridgeport.edu. Deadline is 4:30 on Friday, February 3rd. Best wishes for a successful semester and I look forward to your involvement in student activities and community services this spring!
