The Lady Knights volleyball team takes on underdog C.W. Post. The Knights seemed to come into this game a little overconfident, but were soon sent a huge message by the Pioneers. The Pioneers came into Harvey Hubble Gymnasium with the mindset of proving themselves. With a record of one win and seven losses, they did have a lot to prove. The Pioneers took an impressive two-game lead by winning the first game 31-29, the second game 30-25, and they were looking for the kill. “We knew we could play better than that; they came out strong and surprised us. We definitely should not have underestimated them.” Junior transfer Sonya Garcia reflects on C.W. Post’s surprising start.
The third and fourth games were both “must-wins” for the Knights. Were the Knights to lose one game, they were done and the Pioneers were heading home with their first league win. “We knew how serious this match was and when we lost the first two, I think it inspired us to pull it out,” Sarah Osborne explained.
The Lady Knights came out strong in the third game, but the Pioneers would keep it close for the remaining third, fourth, and fifth games. They came within five points for the final three games, and struggled to keep the Knights from rallying. In a hail of amazing digs, sets, blocks and the most prominent tool of the knights for this match: kills, the Knights having two players with a combined 29 kills: Antoinette Thomas (15 kills), and Amy Neussl (14 kills, 9 blocks).
The Knights were determined to not fall to the basement of the NYCAC with a 0-3 record, as they needed a win in order to be considered contenders in their division. As far as inter-conference play, the Knights are an even five hundred, and in conference play, they are now 1-2.
