As we all may know, the Knights End café parking lot is temporarily inaccessible
to the students due to construction that has been going on since Thursday November 1, 2007. The parking lot has been closed off and both entering and exiting are prohibited. For those of you who are oblivious as to what’s going on, the university is trying to improve the appearance of the campus and this is the first step in accomplishing its goal.According to Thomas R. Oates, VP for Administration and Finance, once this construction is completed, there will be a new parking surface and striping, new lights, new sidewalks, handicapped spaces and new fencing. This is definitely
an upgrade.
This will make the second big project that has occurred on UB’s campus recently. As of the beginning of this semester, the soccer field was up and running. The new soccer field replaced an old vacant parking lot which just seemed to be taking up space, so it wasn’t in any inconvenience to any of the students when it was replaced with the soccer field. It actually benefits the students because now the team is able to hold all of their major games right here on campus.
Many of the students who attend UB don’t seem to be too happy with the changes to the Knights End parking Lot.
“This project should have been postponed until the summer because it is very inconvenient for the people with cars,” says Dominique Miller, psychology
major.
This seems to be the most common reaction amongst the students who I spoke to about this issue.”Now if I want to go to either Knights End or the Student center I have to park behind Mandeville Hall or some other parking lot and often times I’m not even guaranteed a spot there because of overcrowding,” says Angie Plancher, Business major.
Parking is somewhat of any inconvenience
if you just want to grab a quick bite to eat before or after class or if you want to attend one of the many events that are held in the student center. Students are directed to park their cars in one of the parking lots located on campus specifically, Carlson and Mandeville Halls.
Students like Randy Jean Baptiste however, disagree with these concerns.
“Yes it may be an inconvenience to those who drive but this is something temporary
and the results will be beneficial in that the parking lot will be much bigger and more organized.Go U.B.!”
Approximately how long will this project take? The expected completion date of this project will be January 4, 2008. So until then those of you with cars try to have a little patience. Look at the bright side, by the time you come back next semester you will have a more appealing
