Safty Tips

The office of the provost sent out an email telling Security wants all students to follow these following protocol:
1) Personal safety starts with you.
2) Do not walk alone after dark, especially off campus.
3) Walk in well lighted areas.
4) When you walk, hold your head up and look other people in the eye. Confidence is a deterrent.
5) Do not walk off campus to area stores.
6) If you must visit the surrounding area, walk through the campus streets as much as possible.
7) If a trip to the ATM or a store can wait until daylight, wait. 8)Remember that campus security cannot respond to off campus incidents, so plan your travels accordingly.
9) Avoid carrying large sums of cash, wearing flashy jewelry or any other expensive items which may attract attention (like an iPod).
10) Muggings are crimes of opportunity, so take away that opportunity by always being aware of your surroundings.
11) Watch for suspicious people or activity and report it immediately.
12) Never feel embarrassed about calling security or the police about a suspicious person. We want you to feel safe and we always take complaints seriously.
13) If you have a bad feeling about a situation, trust your instincts and go immediately to a safe location.
When asked about the incident, Security informed us they would answer questions about the incident on Monday,September 24. Look for more details on this incident in the next issue of The Scribe.
