And Down The Stretch They Come!

With October quickly approaching, the upper echelon of Major League Baseball (MLB) teams are starting to separate themselves from the rest of the pack. First we will take a look at the American League East (AL East). For the first time since 1995 the Boston Red Sox are holding on to the number one spot in the division.
At this point in the season they have 90 wins and 63 losses. Unfortunately for Red Sox fans, and Yankee haters, they have gone on a four game losing streak. Speak of the devil, the “Evil Empire”, New York Yankees have been on a roll. They have the best record in baseball since June 18.
Also they have a five and a half game lead on the Detroit Tigers in the Wild Card. The Wild Card is the teams that did not win their division but did well enough to qualify for a playoff spot. The Yankees have a record of 88 and 64.
In the AL Central the Cleveland Indians seem to have everything under control. A seven and a half game lead over the Detroit Tigers have them waiting out their “magic number”. The number of games the Tigers need to lose to eliminate
themselves from contention, thus clinching a spot for Cleveland. Cleveland can also get it if they win three games.
Into the west, the Los Angeles Angels have to win on the 21 of September and the division is all theirs. The Seattle Mariners did have a comfortable lead in the AL Wild Card but, a series loss to the Yankees, and the Yankees hot finish have placed them out of contention.
The National League (NL) has the defending champions, The St. Louis Cardinals, but they are not going to the playoffs. The first time that this has happened to a NL team since the 04 Florida Marlins
The New York Mets are holding down the first place spot in the NL East. Going 3 and 7 in their last ten and a 9th inning meltdown on September 20 to the Florida Marlins have them holding on for dear life. The Philadelphia Phillies are trailing the Mets by a game and a half. They have gone 7 and 3 in their last ten as of September 21.
The Chicago Cubs are leading the NL Central by a game and a half over the Milwaukee Brewers. And in the NL West the Arizona Diamondbacks have a half a game lead on the San Diego Padres, the Padres lead the NL Wild Card by two and a half games.
My predictions on the MLB Postseason goes as follows.
