We’re Back!

After almost two months, and some serious deliberation, the Scribe is finally back and publishing, at least for now. This semester saw quite a few outgoing seniors leave the Scribe’s writing staff,so that by the time the September 20th issue came out there were six writers, and seven editors. Long story short, we had no one to find stories worth writing about, much less actually research and type them up.With no content to speak of, The Scribe went under as the administration scrambled to decide if it was worth saving, with ideas that ranged from “hand it off to the
Mass Communications department as a class”,
to “place it under direct administrative control”, to “reorganize the staff and give it one more shot as a student run newspaper.” For now, the decision has been made to give a truly independent and interested Scribe one last chance, with a new executive board to more effectively split up the responsibilities of managing the newspaper. The previous editor, Melissa Hutt, will remain on as an advisor to ensure a smooth transition. It should also be noted that without her, Professor Eslami (Faculty Advisor), and the entire staff past and present the paper would have folded under long ago.

When asked for comment about what direction he would like the new Scribe to take, Rob Miller said that “One of the biggest problems with this campus is that there are always rumors flying as soon as something happens. I’m looking to get someone on the scene, watching what’s happening, and asking the right questions. If we don’t want to fix what’s broken, then we shouldn’t be here. So let’s get to work and start somewhere to fix these things.”

This is officially our last chance to redeem ourselves as an involved and interested student body, and if this paper is to survive it will need a major influx of involved reporters and columnists. I, myself, am a recent addition to the writing staff, hopefully one of many. Also new to the Scribe is the incoming Editor-in-Chief Rob Miller, new Business Manager Phillip Connor, and Richie Unger has been brought on as a Sports and Dining reporter. Eliana
Oliva will still be editing the World News section, and John Crowley has taken a position as Managing Editor, when he isn’t helping us out on layout. Look for new columns, movie reviews, professor’s playlists, and hopefully more in issues to come.
