Swiming and Diving adds up Victories

This year the lady purple knights have increased the number of team members to eleven from last year’s five. Coach Brad Flood recruited seven new freshmen from Europe as well as America. The team now consists of two Croatians, two Bulgarians, one Polish, one Romanian, one Hungarian, three American and one Greek (the former Purple Knight Volleyball star Mary Chassis).The Purple Knights had their third consecutive win for the season after beating Pace University at Pleasantville, NY. Junior Raluca Duma (Cluj Napoca , Romania) won all her three events, 1000 freestyle (from which the first 400 were IM), the 200 butterfly and the 500 freestyle. Junior Alexandra Byczynska (Warsaw, Poland) was the leading in victories together with Duma with 100 backstroke, 200 IM, and 200 backstroke. Other winners were Freshmen Anna Zahova (Velingrad, Bulgaria) 100 breaststroke and 200 breakstroke ,and Kassie Iadarola (Sutton, MA) in 200 freestyle.

The Purple Knights’ relay team consisting of freshmen Lindsay Foster (Gloucester , Mass.), Doris Matosic (Split, Croatia) and Junior Nevena Vatachka (Bucharest, Romania)
were very successful finishing first place.
Next up for the Bridgeport Swimming team is the Nutmeg Invitational at the Yale
University Campus on Dec 2-3.
