Dirty dishes, dirty cups, dirty napkins and dirty trays. Recently this is what the tables look like after students eat at Marina. Sodexho and Residential Life here at The University of Bridgeport are in talks to discuss disciplining patrons who are not cleaning up after themselves. Punishments may include fines or even being made to help the student workers at Marina Dining Hall who clean the tables after Marina closes. Laura Pruyne the Resident Director for Barnum Hall and Warner Hall said, “The students here are all adults they should all know to clean up after themselves.”The main reason this might start is because the mess of dishes left after each meal is getting really bad at Marina. This problem is due to either individual student laziness or a lack of respect for their peers. Anthony Panzella the Cafeteria Supervisor at Marina Dining Hall stated, “It is very disgraceful. They have to be thoughtful to their classmates.”
Marina is the type of place where everything needs to stay clean, because it is just like your house. Students have to clean up after themselves
when they are at home, why do they behave differently here? Joshua Edwards, a senior at University of Bridgeport stated, “I believe they should clean up. They should know better.”
On November 1, 2006 Marina had a health inspection. The health inspector checked every inch of Marina and gave the facility a passing grade. The managers at Marina are very lucky that the lack of student concern for cleanliness has not affected the overall condition of the facilities at Marina. There is no date of when the new policies will take affect, but hopefully it will be very soon, because the amount of time it takes to clean up after meals are over is far too long.
