Freshman forward Curt Sutherland (Branford, Conn./ Branford)scored just 20 seconds into the second overtime period to give the University of Bridgeport men’s soccer team a 2-1 victory Saturday afternoon in Slippery Rock , PA at Slippery Rock University. With the win the Purple Knights improve to 2-4-1 overall, while the Rock dips to 5-3 overall.The two teams played scoreless until Bridgeport got on board first in the 76 th minute on an unassisted strike by senior Amel Music (Windsor, Conn./ Windsor). The Rock’s Justin Riggle would tie the game 1-1 in the 84 th minute of action and ultimately send the game into overtime.
Neither team would score a goal in the first 10-minute extra stanza; Finally, Sutherland would win the game for UB, scoring his first collegiate goal in the first minute of action of the second overtime period on a feed from sophomore Habib Sylla (Conakry, Guinea).
The Purple Knights outshot the Rock 17-15. Senior goalkeeper Chris Clarke (New York, NY)recorded six saves in the victory.UB will begin ECC action on Wednesday, Sept.20 when they travel to Brookville, NY to play C.W. Post at 4 pm.
