During the first week of April a number of posters advertising a “B-DAY BASH” for two University of Bridgeport freshmen, Denese Doyle (Boston, Ma) and Danielle Teaque (Brooklyn, NY), began to appear around campus. The posters report that the party is being presented by Denese and Danielle and is scheduled to take place Friday night the 14th of April at the Ritz Night Club here in Bridgeport. The posters would be unremarkable except for the fact that they were not approved for posting and were seen posted on bulletin boards in Bodine Hall and the Student Center lobby. The posters also include the name of the university above Denese and Danielle’s picture. The party was advertised similarly to UB students on Facebook. The posting was done by Ms. Doyle. When questioned Ms. Doyle explained that she “didn’t know” she shouldn’t include the name of the University and that she “wouldn’t have” if she had known. A member of the promotion team who did not give his name said “I had nothing to do with the posters.” Both Ms. Doyle and the promotion team member claimed that it was not their own idea to use the university’s name.Edina Oestreicher, Director of Student Programming & Community Services here at UB mentioned that she has had trouble with people putting up promotional flyers on bulletin boards and cars here on campus. All flyers that are posted around campus must be submitted and receive approval before they can be posted. The Dean of Students was unavailable for comment at press time.
