Martial Arts major, Josh Thompson, grabbed top medals at this year’s Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) New England Karate Championships.Held on Sunday, April 2nd, Thompson received gold and silver medals in a tournament with over 170 participants.In both short weapon and long weapon competition he won first in his division. He won second in both form competition and 1-point sparring.This UB student is one of sixteen in his division who qualified to compete at the regional tournament, which is before the nationals.Thompson, who is a sophomore student, transferred from the University of New Hampshire. He currently has a second degree black belt, practicing for 15 years in the art of Shorin-Ryu Karate.AAU Karate is a nationwide association, dedicated to recognizing practitioners for their outstanding involvement and contribution in the development, growth, teaching, coaching, and competing in the art of traditional karate-do.
