UB expert to give talk on “China’s Global Hunt for Oil

Dr. Zhiqun Zhu, assistant professor of political economy and diplomacy in the University of Bridgeport’s International College, will discuss “China’s Global Hunt for Oil” on Wednesday, April 5, at 6 p.m.
The presentation will take place on the UB campus in the Henry B. DuPont III Tower Room in the University’s Arnold Bernard Center for the Arts and Humanities, 84 Iranistan Ave. The public is invited to the free lecture.
Dr. Zhu is a dynamic speaker and a recognized China expert who recently testified on Capitol Hill about China-Japan relations. Educated in China and in the United States, Professor Zhu will discuss the geopolitical implications of China’s ongoing industrialization and its “thirst for oil.”
Routledge Press in April is publishing Dr. Zhu’s [book] “US-China Relations in the 21st Century.” In it, he writes about whether the United States and China can learn from history in resolving conflicts handle a potential power transition peacefully in this century. Dr. Zhu has been awarded a research fellowship to the University of Hawaii’s East-West Center for this summer.
Zhu is widely published on U.S.-China issues. He was a professor of government at Hamilton College before coming to UB, and earlier in his career, was the public affairs officer at the U.S. Consulate in Shanghai. He has his Ph.D. from the University of South Carolina.
