Three members of the University of Bridgeport men’s basketball team and one women’s team member were selected to postseason teams in voting by the New York Collegiate Athletic Conference (NYCAC) coaches.
Senior guard Kevin Jeffreys (Bridgeport, CT) was announced as a first team All-NYCAC recipient. Jeffreys, who scored his 1,000th career point in only two seasons at UB in Feb., currently ranks fifth in the conference in scoring (19.5 ppg) and first in steals (2.35). The talented shooting guard leads the Purple Knights in points per game averaging 18.3 overall and is second on the club in rebounds averaging 4.5 boards a game. Kevin was named NYCAC Player of the Week Jan. 22 and was also a preseason All-NYCAC first team selection.
Backcourt classmate Terrell Taylor (Bridgeport, CT) was named to the NYCAC All-second team. Taylor has been the catalyst in UB’s second-half surge as the Purple Knights are 17-3 since Taylor joined the line-up and 17-1 when he is a starter. He has scored in double-digits in every game he has appeared in except for three games and he has twice scored over 30-points in a contest. Terrell currently ranks third in the NYCAC in scoring (19.9 ppg), first in free throw percentage (.825), and first in 3-point field goals made averaging 2.94 a game. Taylor earned NYCAC Player of the week status for the week of Feb. 5.
High-flying senior forward Mike Rosario (Bridgeport, CT) was placed on the NYCAC All-third team. Rosario is close to averaging a double-double a game with 13.2 ppg and 9.7 rebounds a game. He currently ranks first in the NYCAC in block shots and 22nd in the NCAA Division II averaging 2.1 blocks per game. He also ranks 15th in the NCAA Division II in rebounding with 9.7 caroms per game as well as 31st in the NCAA Division II in field goal percentage shooting .582 percent. Mike is a two-time NYCAC Player of the Week for the periods of Jan. 2 and Feb. 26. and a one-time Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division II Player of the Week.
The UB women’s basketball team junior center Angelina Jimenez (Santo Domingo, DR) was named to the NYCAC All-first team. Jimenez leads the Purple Knights in points and rebounds averaging 10.6 ppg and 10.0 boards per game. A dominant force on the inside, Angie grabbed a career-high 24 rebounds in a contest against NYIT, placing her first in the NCAA Division II for most rebounds in a single-game. She ranks first in the NYCAC in rebounding averaging 10 boards a game. Jimenez is a three-time NYCAC Player of the Week and one-time ECAC Division II Player of the Week.
