GOP Scandal: Tom Delay

The political tug of war continues between the Republicans and Democrats with the latest blow being to the Republicans. Tom Delay (R- TX), Senate Majority leader, has just recently been indicted by the Texas supreme court. He is charged with illegally conspiring to use corporate donations to support Texas GOP candidates back in 2001.
Although the indictment has forced the Congressman to temporarily step down from his position for the duration of his trial, most Republican politicians are very confident that Mr. Delay will be proven innocent and leave with a clean slate. Congressman Delay considers this indictment to be weak, baseless, and a front by a biased prosecutor.
If Congressman Delay is found guilty, he could possibly face up to two years in prison and up to $10K in fines (I’m sure he’s not worried about the fine). It is no surprise to anybody that most of the Republicans are backing Tom Delay while most Democrats are rooting for his conviction. A conviction could leave a large mark on the face of the GOP for quite some time.
This possible conviction will only give Americans more of a reason to be wary of their political representatives. Honesty and candor is quickly losing its ground in Washington. It seems that decisions are made not in the best interest of the citizens, but in the best interest of political parties.
