Sophomores Wilma A. Harris and Nevena R. Vatachka received the first annual Freshman Achievement Award presented by the University Women’s Forum /Academic Support Committee. Wilma, who is from New Jersey, is a Social Sciences major with a concentration in Political Science. Nevena hails from Romania and majors in International Business. This award is in recognition of the academic excellence and potential they exhibited in their first year of study. In addition to a certificate, each was awarded $100.00. The presentation was made at the University Women’s Forum October meeting by Academic Support Committee chair, Karen Smiga and committee members, Barbara Gabianelli and Roxie Ray. It is the mission of the Academic Support Committee to encourage UB students and reward them for their successes. This particular award was created for students who have attended UB for both the Spring and Fall semesters and have earned the highest GPA in their freshman class. The award is given at the beginning of the students’ sophomore year at University of Bridgeport.
