The University of Bridgeport has named Meghan Kavanagh as the athletic department’s assistant athletic trainer, announced UB athletic director Jay Moran.
Kavanagh comes to UB from the University of New Haven, where she worked in the athletic training department since August 2001. After serving as a graduate assistant trainer for two years, Kavanagh was promoted to assistant athletic trainer and eventually took the position of Director of Sports Medicine in early 2005. As the director, she was responsible for supervising and directing all athletic training facilities, as well and developing new procedures and scheduling medical staff. Her other areas of responsibility included dealing with insurance companies and physician billing, managing of the athletic training budget, ordering of all training supplies and equipment, and serving as the site coordinator for all NCAA-sanctioned drug testing at New Haven.
Kavanagh earned her Bachelor’s degree from nearby Sacred Heart University in 2001 with a degree in Human Movement and Sports Science/Athletic Training. She then received her Master’s degree in Management of Sports Industries from New Haven in May of 2003.
