When I first heard about the Black Student Alliance (BSA) I was a bit skeptical about the overall motive of the organization. After the first meeting my skepticism was removed after learning the motto. The motto is “Many Cultures, under one agenda.” I was personally greeted by the President Victor Bowman who treated me like a regular member and encouraged me to come back and bring a friend to the next meetings which take place Mondays at 7 p.m. in the student center.
The Black Student Alliance is an organization that has been on campus for over thirty years. It is traditionally known for its parties like Tip Drill which, will take place in April but the Black Student is more than a superficial group focused on parties. Last semester it worked with other clubs to produce events like the Asian cultural Enlightenment club to produce Asian Soul food night.
The Black Student Alliance also does a number of charitable events including a number of Blood drives, and donating funds from recycled materials for The National Cancer association. Coming up on February 25, 2005 the BSA will be presenting Showtime @ UB.
Showtime at UB is a benefit concert; all the proceeds will go to the Tsunami relief fund to benefit the victims of Eastern Africa and South East Asia. So come out and support this event on February 25. Soulful delight, sumptuous, succulent baked goods will be sold at the Benefit concert. Proceeds from soulful delight goodies will go to benefit the national cancer center. So come out and support a good cause on Friday February 25, 2005.
