Cold Second Half Sinks Men’s Basketball in Battle for First Place

Bridgeport, Conn. — After leading by a 34-28 margin at the half, UB couldn’t overcome a cold shooting stretch in the second half and fell to Adelphi by a 59-51 final on Thursday evening at the Hubbell Gym. The loss snaps UB’s five-game winning streak and drops the Purple Knights two games back of first-place Adelphi in the NYCAC standings.UB was led by a near triple-double from All-American candidate Ramel Allen with nine points, 18 rebounds and 10 blocked shots. Junior Kevin Jeffreys was the lone Purple Knight in double figures with 10 points on just 3-of-13 shooting from the field.

James Samuels led Adelphi with a 15-point, 11-rebound double-double, while Aaron Cummings had 12 points in 38 minutes.

Adelphi is now 12-3 overall, 11-1 in the NYCAC. UB falls to 11-4 overall and 9-3 in the NYCAC.
