Bridgeport, Conn. — Bridgeport jumped out to a 6-0 lead and never looked back, rolling to a 74-57 victory over Philadelphia on Saturday afternoon. The Purple Knights never trailed as they improved to 7-1 overall and 4-1 in the NYCAC. The seven wins equals the win total of the last three seasons combined.The Purple Knights led by a 38-28 margin at the half and pushed the lead all the way to 20 points midway through the second half. The clutch three-point shooting of senior Crystal Deichert helped UB put away the Rams with the second-half run. Deichert finished 4-for-4 from behind the arc and the UB team shot 8-of-12 from three-point land. Deichert finished the game with 20 points on 8-of-13 from the field to lead all scorers. She wasn’t alone though in double figures as junior Megan Jones scored 17 points, Aliyah Miles posted 11, and Deseraya Williams and Krista Ross had 10 points each. Williams finished with the game’s only double-double as she also pulled down 16 rebounds.
The Purple Knights were able to keep the Rams at bay after the Rams’ Samara Speakes got into early foul trouble and finished with just nine points before fouling out. Speakes is one of the top players in the region and a NYCAC All-Conference selection. Kym Heere led Philadelphia with 10 points, while Alisha Ferguson had 12 rebounds.
