UB students have been accustomed to partying on Thursdays and going on home on Fridays for a long time. VIBE contributed to breaking the “nothing to do on the weekends” curse that has existed on the UB campus for the last few years with their First Annual Fashion Show held on Friday November 19th.
VIBE is known for its bi-weekly poetry events held in the Twisted Caf, but wanted to do something different. “There is a lot of undiscovered talent in Bridgeport and other parts of the tri-state area especially when it comes to clothing designs, we just wanted to give them an opportunity to show their creations” said Jordan Wilson VIBE treasurer.
The Designers included Jay a.k.a. “Lime Green” from Mos Wanted clothing store located downtown Bridgeport, Mitchell Noel a student from UConn, Daven from New York, Savoy a Connecticut native and UB’s own Simone Carnegie. The original designs ranged from casual to elegant, and even futuristic. Many designers walked away with offers to make some clothes for UB students.
VIBE will be holding this Fashion every fall semester. “The crowd loved what they saw. We know there are so much more undiscovered designers in the area, and we intend on bringing them to UB every year” said Parris Fraser VIBE member.
Look out for VIBE events in the spring semester such as the release of the first Mr. and Ms. UB Calendar, the Poetry Slam, the Mr. and Ms. UB Pageant, The 5th Annual Playas Ball… and much more.
