Men’s Basketball Loses at Mercy,
71-55
The UB men’s basketball team dropped a 71-55 NYCAC game to Mercy on Wednesday evening in Dobbs Ferry, NY. The Flyers took control of the game early in the first half and never trailed again as UB fell to 16-5 all-time against Mercy. UB was led by 17 points from junior Mike Rosario, as well as a double-double with 12 points and 13 rebounds from 6-11 senior center Ramel Allen. Bridgeport, Conn. — Led by 32 points from junior Mike Rosario, the University of Bridgeport opened its NYCAC season with a 101-86 rout of Molloy on Tuesday evening at the Harvey Hubbell Gym. UB led 50-33 at the break before Molloy was able to tie the game with eight minutes left, but the Purple Knights went on a 17-7 run over the next four minutes to put the game out of reach.
Three UB players ended up in double figures for the game. Rosario, who ended with 32 points, also posted 14 rebounds for the double-double and led the team with six steals. Senior center Ramel Allen, fresh off a triple-double, posted 19 points and 16 rebounds with two blocks in 25 minutes of play. Junior guard Kevin Jeffreys shot just 4-of-15 from the field, but still finished with 16 points in 29 minutes. Guard Terence Wilkins was solid with nine assists in 38 minutes. Junior Raul Natera came off the bench for 24 minutes and was outstanding with seven points, nine rebounds and six assists.
Four Molloy players ended up in double figures, led by Robert Mostacci with 19 points in 29 minutes. Moises Garcia led the team with nine rebounds to go along with his 18 points. UB out-rebounded the Lions by a 62-34 margin, including 26-11 on the offensive glass. As a team, UB shot just 51.5 percent from the charity stripe at 17-of-33.
The Purple Knights, now 3-1 on the season and 1-0 in the NYCAC, are back in action on Wednesday, December 1st when the team travels to Mercy for an 8 p.m. tipoff.
