Fashion Focus: Out With the Old…

As the New Year approaches, I encourage you to rid the skeletons in your closets. That would also include those fashion items that were keeping you from looking your best in 2004. Your first resolution this year (for the fashion conscious that is) should be a new wardrobe or at least an updated one. Before you splurge on a shopping spree remember, ‘Tis the season for giving’ and you might want to consider giving up on some of your fashion items. Here are the top ten fashions/trends of 2004 that did not make the cut on the hit list.
10. Ugg boots: the best place to wear these are in the privacy of your own home as slippers.
9. Durags: Let’s face it fellas, some of you have been “doing the Du”
since Junior High . . . and you still haven’t got waves. Maybe it’s the type of durag you’re using. I don’t know, but it’s starting to defeat its purpose don’t you think? Try showing a little more hair this coming New Year.
8. Jelly Bags: Rubber works well for many things – not for bags. These bags were too flimsy to hold their shape, and transparent enough to show all the unmentionables you drag around in your purse.
7. Glittery Makeup: Unless you wanted to be an extra in the movie “glitter,” sparkle makeup has had its day. Whether it’s on the eyes, lips, or the dcolletage, it’s just too unnatural and youthful-looking to be flattering. Besides, shimmer is much more alluring.
6. Trucker Hats: unless you are Ashton Kutcher or an actual trucker, this look has done it’s time. Quietly dispose of the cap, and we’ll pretend that this never happened.
5. Low-rise pants: there’s something about showing too much skin in
the wrong areas that just isn’t sexy. If you’re going to wear low-rise pants, wear low-rise thongs, not granny panties.
4. Platform shoes: The bigger the heel, the better the stability right? But how big does it have to be for you to manage? Try a slimmer heel. If you have thick thighs, these heels will only make you look fat in that area. Let’s be honest here, “thick and fat” are two different things . . . but you be the judge.
3. Pleated plaid skirts: the schoolgirl look was reintroduced by Britney spears the year she debuted . . . that was about six years ago, and where is Britney now? My point, exactly.
Moreover, pleats aren’t the best on every shape.
2. Skirts over jeans – it’s really very simple: If you’re cold, wear the jeans. If you’re hot – wear the skirt.
1. Monogram anything: from baby tees to bags, they are everywhere! This trend was definitely the “one hit wonder” of fashion in 2004.
