In June 2004, the United States and Britain presented the United Nation’s Security Council with a Resolution for American coalition troops to depart from Iraq by January 2006. Although the Resolution did not deem such a departure to be mandatory, pressures from China, Germany, and France (the leading nations opposed to the war) instigated the presentation from both countries. It is expected that by December 2005 the Coalition troops will depart. It is believed that this will give the Iraqi governing council a chance to rebuild the country. For now, there is a sense that as long as American troops remain in Iraq, peace in Iraq regions will not exist.
With such pressures from the world’s nations, and a promise of the return of troops from Iraq in sight an increase in patriotism has been seen. The American automobiles from the East Coast to the West Coast have been decorated with yellow stickers proclaiming, “Support Our Troops,” or “Bring Our Troops Back.” To the right are the silenced numbers of fatalities that are not visible to the American or British public.
