Applications are now being accepted for the Legislative Internship Program sponsored by the Connecticut General Assembly. The Legislative Internship Program provides students with the opportunity to experience firs-hand the formal and informal aspects of the state’s legislative process.
The program commences late in January 2005 and runs through the Spring Semester. Interns are assigned to a legislator and perform a variety of tasks including analysis of legislative proposals, monitoring committee and floor sction, constituent casework, and policy research. An academic component is included in the internship program which includes orientation sessions, seminars, and written papers. Most institutions award academic credit for internships ranging from 12 -15 semester hours for a full time internship (five days/week) and 3 – 6 semester hours for a part time internship (two days/week). In addition, interns are given a travel stipend to help defray the cost of traveling to the Capitol.
Intern applications are due on November 1st, and are submitted to your Campus Advisor listed below. All applicants are interviewed some time in November, with selections announced in early December. More detailed information and applications may be obtained from your campus advisor. Dr. Hans van der Giessen
