Campaign 2004: Spokespersons from the Kerry and Bush Campaigns explain their candidates’ positions on foreign policy.

The University of Bridgeport’s International Awareness Club in conjunction with the International College will sponsor a debate on Foreign Affairs on Monday October 18th at 7pm in the Cox Student Center at the University of Bridgeport. Spokespersons from the Bush and the Kerry campaigns will speak at the debate. Amb. Craig Stapleton, who previously served as US Ambassador to the Czech Republic, will represent the Bush campaign. The Kerry campaign spokesperson has not yet been finalized. Speakers will be asked questions from a panel that includes Connecticut World Trade Association President Jim Nicholas, World Affairs Forum Executive Director Eileen Heaphy, Dr. Tarek Sobh, Dean of the University of Bridgeport College of Engineering, Angela Santiago, Chair of the Chemistry Department at the University and UB students Obakeng Phiri, and Jimi Baughman. Possible topics to be raised by the panel are the War in Iraq, US policy towards the Middle East, Israel and the creation of a Palestinian state, US policy toward nuclear weapons in North Korea and Iran, US-China relations, and the problem of AIDS in Africa. This promises to be an excellent forum. A full report will be in the next issue.
