Many students have reported mistakenly receiving a balance statement that was incorrect. Unfortunately, it isn’t certain why this occurred. As of Thursday, September 29, the matter still was not clearly resolved. A meeting was being scheduled to discuss the issue. It is widely believed that there may have been a mix-up with the students’ addresses.
These bills were apparently for the fall semester room and board. Enclosed with the balance statement was a loan Application. Receiving the contents of this envelope left the recipients in shock, for many had believed that their bills were already taken care of. The students who received the incorrect bills were appalled. Several said they first wondered, “When will they get things right at UB”? They knew for sure that all of their UB tuition and fees were already covered and they were understandably upset for the mistake. Whether there was a mix-up with the students’ addresses or not, a lot of the students feel that if people did their jobs correctly at UB, these errors simply would not occur. On the bright side, however, mistakes are made so that valuable lessons can be learned. The UB community can only hope to be reassured that something as chaotic as this will not happen again. Hopefully, the people involved will learn from this mistake and take the necessary precautions to prevent it from happening again.
