Mathmatics Problem of the Week

The Fee Fie Foe fraternity chapter at a large midwestern university had an in-house dance several weeks ago, and invited the members of the Hee Hie Hoe sorority chapter to attend. Altogether, 43 people were invited, and more than 22 actually came. During the party, each young man danced (once and each) with four young women, and each young women danced (once each) with seven young men. Given that those numbers account for all of the dances at the party, how many people were there?
Any officially registered student may submit a solution for this problem. Solutions should be submitted to Dr. Eigle through the Math and Science secretary. The deadline for submission is noon on Tuesday, September 14th. A correct solution will be posted after the noon deadline. The name of the winner of the $5 prize for the best presented, complete, accurate, correct solution, if any, will be posted later.
