Greetings from Director of Student Programming

Welcome all new students and welcome back all returning students! I’m excited to work with you in planning some fantastic social, cultural, and educational events during the year ahead.
One of the best things about being a student at a small, school such as UB, is that you really do have the opportunity to create change and make great things happen. I encourage you to get involved in whatever suits you best. We have many positions available for the 2004/2005 Student Government Association (SGA). Consider running for one of them! Whether it’s serving as senator for your school or Speaker of the House, SGA will offer you a terrific opportunity to put your leadership skills to the test! For more information and your SGA petition please stop by room 116 in the Student Center.
I also am forming a Student Programming Board, which will work closely with me in planning student events throughout the year. If you’re interested in event planning, advertising, marketing, or just want to become more involved, this is a great opportunity. The Board will meet monthly. Please email me at studentprogramming@bridgeport.edu, call me at x4487, or just stop by my office, room 117 in the Student Center, if you’re interested and would like more information.
Many wonderful events have already been planned for the coming year including trips to Boston, New York, Vermont, and Six Flags, “Friday Night Flings” to go bowling, movie and shopping trips, cultural nights, and, of course, many parties! Also, don’t forget to watch for the grand opening of the renovated ARCADE X in the Student Center basement. ARCADE X will feature pinball and arcade games! We will also remember our many neighbors in need during upcoming community service events, which include, the United Way Day of Caring on September 9, American Red Cross Blood and Bone Marrow Drive on October 13, and Make a Difference Day on October 23. If you’d like to volunteer for these or any other event, please send me an email, call, or just stop by!
Lastly, make sure to stop by the UB Student Activity Fair on Tuesday, September 14 from 4 – 6 pm on the Ped Mall in front of the Student Center (Social Room if rain). If you would like to join a club or want to reserve a table to advertise your club, this Fair is the place to go! Please contact me if you wish to reserve a table for your organization.
I look forward to working together to help you make the most of your experience at UB! Best wishes for a successful year ahead.

Sincerely,
Edina R. Oestreicher
