For the past four weeks, major renovations in Barnum Hall and some in Seeley Hall have been underway, along with a plan for new furniture in Bodine Hall. The stairways of Barnum are light green, those of Seeley are purple, and the first floor lounges are repainted, lacquered and re-carpeted.
Rubely Marte, junior, commented that the “couches bring out the UB spirit,” as they were a bright purple, and that they were “not only pretty, but practical.”
In Barnum, a new, big-screen, high-definition television has replaced the old one that had a broken front panel. Now residents can actually change the channel and the volume without having to ask the security guard in the lobby for the remote control.
Now, big, fluffy, “poodle-esque” pillows adorn the new comfortable couches. New tables and chairs replace the old furniture in the first floor lounge as well. In addition to the new furniture, there is a new stove and oven, allowing students to cook and watch television at the same time.
This has “brought people downstairs,” according to freshman, Christina Taylor, which she “appreciates.” For eye candy, there are large pictures of the UB campus on the newly painted walls, which have added a nice touch.
Some observed that the completion of the renovations was timed specifically for the Accepted Students’ Day. Marte felt that this was a clever move and hopes it “brings more students, which would improve the academic programs.” Aside from some comments concerning color schemes, there is general approval of the long due renovations. Seeley and Bodine are expecting new furniture and similar attention in the near future.
