Clubs, Clubs and More Clubs

Find Me Poetry Club is a poetry writing/performing club that plans to hold poetry slams, readings, and a poetry caf. Muslim Student Association hopes to have a “Ramadan” event, where the MSA will invite people to learn about Islam and also have a trip at the end of the year to a convention about Islam.

The Scribe UB’s student newspaper is always looking for writers, columnist, and staff for the newspaper. Interested students should call x4382 or email scribe@bridgeport.edu

Himalayan Club will hold its annual Himalayan Night in the early part of November, and plans a South Asian film festival in the spring semester.

The International Awareness Club (IAC), formerly the International Relations Club is planning several academic events throughout the year and also plans to attend the Harvard Model United Nations conference in Boston, MA.

Service for Peace is focusing on creating a better local community through doing joint events with Fairfield University, Sacred Heart University, and local service organizations. They’ve received a grant, with which they are planning to have an educational event with dinner, a keynote speaker and a brainstorming session. They are also organizing regular service projects twice a month.

Best Buddies is a program that encourages friendship between college students and mentally disabled children. They are planning regular outings with Sacred Heart University.

A new club, the Drama Club is planning to put on small skits at Twisted Caf and possibly a small production at the end of the year.

The Chess Club has planned a chess club tournament.

The World Tong-Il Moodo Club, a martial arts club, is tentatively planning practices on Monday and Fridays.

The Lasting Love Challenge Club will be doing discussions and readings about love and marriage once a week.

World CARP will be studying the Divine Principle, talk about the war and other social issues.

UB’s premier hip-hop and break dancing group, Soul Beat will be holding weekly practices and plans to participate in the International Festival.

Visions of Intelligence Between Ethnicities (VIBE) have planned parties, poetry readings, and fundraisers throughout the first semester. Look for fliers announcing each event.

Tae Kwon do Team would like to create a competitive sparring team.

Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc is a national community service sorority. They will participate in several national programs: Operation Big Book Bag, WeeSavers, and came in first place for the Sickle Cell Anemia Walk held last Saturday. October 1st through the 4th, Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. will be holding an Informational, a Sigma Spa, Movie Night and an after-party.

The UB Cheerleading Club hopes to continue to raise UB spirit through their cheerleading at the varsity basketball games. The first game will be in early November.

The African Club is planning a concert, or a cinema night where they will show Nigerian movies, which are particularly popular in Africa. They will also be putting on the annual Afroganza cultural night and possibly a Bumaye party in the spring.
