On the last day of February, the Twisted Caf was filled with people who came to see the band, Warped, play live. The hard-rock atmosphere was in the air thanks to the feedback of UB students who not only applauded the musicians, but threw at them the bra of an excited fan. They played mainly originals, but their repertoire included also Bob Seger, Guns and Roses, and Kiss, which was the highlight of the evening. The band (including members from Fairfield University and Southern) left a good impression at UB and they were invited to come back and play again. The band was very helpful in answering a few questions on the phone:Scribe:What kind of music inspires you?
Warped:We listen to a lot of hard rock, stuff like Guns and Roses, ACDC, basically the good old bands. We all have the same musical influences.
S:Who is the song writer in your band?
W:All of us write the lyrics.
S:What strikes you most about UB?
W:People there were so much into the stuff that we do. We totally enjoyed it!
S:What’s it like playing live for a bunch of young people?
W:It feels great. There are not many hard rock bands any more, so we try to keep it going and it feels good. The excitement of the audience is everything. We love playing live.
S:Do you record?
W:We have five songs. Our first CD is called “A class B sides”.
S:Do you have rock star lifestyles?
W:Not exactly – it’s just the beginning for us. We have jobs and go to school like everybody else. But yeah, we hope that we get there: they play our music on college radio stations and that’s a start. Sure we hope to become more famous.
S:Do you have girlfriends?
W:(laugh) Only Ted does. Mat and I are free.
For those of you who cannot get enough of live music, there is an excellent opportunity to start off the spring break with a live performance by Farewell to Fashion, a punk rock band that will play at Twisted this coming Friday. Who says rock is dead?
