New Events Planned at Wheeler Rec Center

Most of you are eager to go on spring break and probably would like to delay your return to the sad and boring life on UB campus. You would not want to do so this year, otherwise you will miss the exciting events awaiting your return. Dan Maloney, Director of the Wheeler Recreation Center, is organizing various activities after spring break to keep everyone on the go. Several games are anticipated, the most important being the spring intramurals. This year, the sports are Badminton, Basketball and Racquetball. All UB students are invited to join or create a team and have it registered. The intramurals will start on Monday, March 17, upon the return from spring break.

In the same train of thought, starting March 18, there will be a Cricket Night at the Wheeler Recreation Center. Every following Tuesday night thereafter will be Cricket Night. Experienced and new players are welcome; it will be all about having fun together. A similar program was organized for the UB chiropractic students. On March 3, the UB Chiro lunchtime basketball league was inaugurated. Games take place from Monday to Friday at lunchtime (from 12 noon to 2 pm).

Water lovers have not been forgotten. The minor incident that kept our pool closed for a week is now fixed. The broken filter pipe was repaired this week, so that swimmers are welcome back to the pool. In addition, starting March 21, the WRC is offering an American Lifeguard Training Course. It is a great opportunity for UB students to learn to save lives and train for a great job.

The WRC has other innovative plans. A proposal has been made to change one of the racquetball courts into a cardio equipment room. If accepted by the University, the proposal will provide four new machines. Students will be able to enjoy a larger variety of equipment to work-out and keep their shape.

The Wheeler Recreation Center organized many activities for the return from Spring Break. The activities were selected broadly enough so that every student’s taste will be satisfied. You are all invited to participate in those games and be a happy member of the UB student corp.
