While I was earning my degrees in education studies and English, I figured out the best ways to develop literacy in secondary education students. While in school we focused on the issues there are with deficit learning, which is a widespread practice today. This type of learning is mainly focused on what the student does not know and what they cannot do. Deficit learning is overwhelming for a lot of pupils.
