Where did you attend college and what was your major? I attended Shanghai University for International Studies and earned a B.A. in English Literature. I went on to Syracuse University and received an M.A. in Linguistics. Finally, I attended Newhouse School of Public Communication at Syracuse University and earned my Ph.D. in Mass Communications.
What was your favorite part of your college experience? I used to pretend I was reading Mao’s works when I was actually reading some “forbidden” book.
What is your position here at UB? I am associate Professor of Mass Communication and Chair of the Department.
How long have you been teaching at UB? I have been teaching here for nine years.
What is your favorite thing about UB? I like that we have a lot of diversity within our student body.
Is there anything that you wish you could change about UB or the International College? I wish there would be more alumni involvement in UB’s development so our students would benefit.
I was told that you have received a fellowship. What is it for, where will it be taking place, and how long will it last? I have been awarded a Fulbright Scholarship to go to Australia for a month in June and July. The mission for the Fulbright Program is to promote mutual understanding between the people of the United States and the people of other countries around the world through a variety of educational activities and advanced research. I will conduct research in the area of Australian media and international policymaking and media portrayal of the aborigines.
