Bridgeport, Conn. — Junior Frances Santos scored a team-high 21 points on 6-of-7 shooting and 8-of-9 at the free throw line to lead Bridgeport to an 82-58 win over Mercy in women’s basketball action. UB is now 18-5 overall and 15-5 in the NYCAC.
In addition to Santos, junior Desaraya Williams had 12 points and graduate student Krista Ross finished with 10 points and eight rebounds. Sophomore Cherhara Shields had 12 points in 17 minutes of play off the bench.
Mercy’s Elissa Krossber had a game-high 24 points and eight rebounds in 38 minutes. She hit 11-of-14 from the free throw line. Kristen Fennessey added 11 points and was the only other player in double figures for Mercy.
UB outrebounded Mercy by a 42-32 margin, including 32-18 on the defensive end. UB shot 57.1 percent from the field, compared to just 27.5 percent for the Flyers. Mercy also suffered at the free throw line as they missed 16 of 39 shots from the charity stripe.
Bridgeport is now 18-5 overall, 15-5 in the NYCAC and has solidified its hold on second place in the NYCAC. Mercy is still winless at 0-20 overall and 0-19 in the NYCAC.
